The Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) Program has in many ways fulfilled the promise of interagency collaboration on a federal level: with buy-in from both HUD and the VA, housing authorities, case managers, and homeless outreach teams have been able to significantly reduce the number of homeless veterans living on the streets of our communities. Supportive housing has also proven to be a good option for this population. That being said, many veterans continue to face unique challenges and deserve special attention from housers and service providers. We can best meet the needs of this population by working collaboratively.
