There is growing interest in the registered apprenticeship model as a promising but underused workforce development strategy. Apprenticeships can provide employers with workers with the skills they need and offer job seekers the chance to work and earn money while they learn and build skills for well-paying jobs. In the past, the registered apprenticeship model in the U.S. has largely been limited to jobs in construction and manufacturing and usually to white males. In 2015, the U.S. Department of Labor’s American Apprenticeship Initiative (AAI) provided five-year grants for the expansion of registered apprenticeship programs to non-traditional sectors such as healthcare and IT and to more diverse populations, including women and workers of color. This webinar presents evidence gained from Abt’s evaluation of AAI. We will share the extent to which apprenticeships benefitted employers and job seekers. The webinar will also feature AAI grantees and their employer partners, who will share unique insights and practical strategies for implementing a registered apprenticeship. What Will You Learn? - What is a registered apprenticeship? - What are the unique features of apprenticeship as a workforce strategy? - Who participated in AAI registered apprenticeships? What types of job seekers and employers? - What are the potential benefits of registered apprenticeship to job seekers? - What are the potential benefits of the model for employers?
