Get Ready for Trauma Informed Care

Phase 3 of the CMS Requirements of Participation (RoPs) requires that by November 2019 all nursing home providers practice trauma-informed care. Organizations must understand the principles and implement the practices of trauma-informed care to create sensitive and respectful environments for those people who have experienced adverse life events.

• Understand how traumatic experiences can affect the physiology as well as the behaviors and reactions of older adults.
• Consider the workplace practices and staff training needed to provide trauma-informed approaches to care.
• Obtain resources to assist with the ongoing implementation of person-centered trauma-informed care.
