Briefing for Results of Federal Demo on Supportive Housing

Council of Large Public Housing Authorities
Washington, District of Columbia
Tuesday, April 23, 2019 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm
Capitol Visitor Center (SVC-201) - Washington, DC

Promising evidence from a supportive housing pilot program in New York City led the Administration for Children and Families’ Children’s Bureau to fund a five-year, five-site supportive housing demonstration called “Partnerships to Demonstrate the Effectiveness of Supportive Housing for Families in the Child Welfare System” in FY 2012. In addition to providing more than 500 families with supportive housing and wraparound services, the demonstration was intended to strengthen partnerships between child welfare, housing, health care, employment, and other local systems, in order to reduce bureaucratic barriers and improve outcomes for the highest-need families. Targeted outcomes included decreasing child welfare involvement, improving family stability, and improve parental and child well-being.

This briefing will provide an opportunity to learn about the results of the federal demonstration, as well as local lessons learned from the five demonstration sites:

  • Four Oaks Family and Children's Services, Cedar Rapids, IA

  • Connecticut Department of Children and Families, Hartford, CT

  • Kids in Distress, Inc., Wilton Manors, FL

  • Community Alliance for the Homeless, Memphis, TN

  • San Francisco Human Services Agency, San Francisco, CA

Special thanks to Senator Grassley's office for sponsoring the event space.
